SUSTAINABILITY GOALS
Your labels are an important part of branding and information for your products. The way they interact with base items and containers like glass and plastics can affect sustainability, especially recyclability. While ‘recycled’ or ‘compostable’ labels are usually the first consideration, they are not the only or necessarily best way to be more sustainable. Labels Online work with leading world suppliers of raw materials (like Avery Dennison and UPM Raflatac) to provide you with credible options to achieve your sustainability goals
Sustainability Goals can be achieved in 4 ways:
- Responsible sourcing: purchasing from an ethical and certified supply chain where raw materials are FSC® Certified. Responsible sourcing can also include products made from renewable resources. Labels Online Paper-Gloss White and Matt White are both FSC® Certified.
- Reduction strategy: use less or lightweight packaging to reduce the environmental impact and/or carbon footprint OR use materials created using less resources. This strategy can achieve productivity and cost benefits when combined with process change.
- Recycled content: labels made of recycled content. This also includes products made from PCR: post consumer recycled waste, both of which contribute to a ‘circular economy’ and provide significant sustainability benefits in terms of raw material usage, energy and water consumption and waste generation. rDT™ is a recycled content Direct Thermal material that is already being used for ALL Labels Online direct thermal labels.
- Enable recycling: labels that enable recycling by using removable adhesive to allow for recycling or reuse of containers, or are biodegradable or industrially compostable. Labels generally are never recycled, however they are major contributors to contamination and subsequent downscaling of resources during recycling.
